Tapping Away Anxiety

One way that anxiety is triggered in me is when Emmy, our sweet golden retriever, has adverse symptoms from her autoimmune disease.  She will be 11 years old in less than a month.  Today she is opening her mouth just wide enough to eat and she needs more help getting up and moving around.  So the anxiety level was increasing every time I saw her struggle to stand.

I know I need to be intentional about my thoughts, so focusing on all that is good, praying, meditating and tapping are all helpful to me.  I just listened to a Releasing Anxiety tapping meditation on my Tapping Solution app.

When listening to this guided tapping meditation, the app gives you an opportunity to rate your level of anxiety.  I was sitting on the floor next to Emmy rubbing her tummy and my anxiety was stinging with emotion behind my eyes, tight in my throat, heart and chest and queasy in my stomach.  I rated it as an 8.

Beautiful calming music plays in the background while Jessica kindly guides us through the tapping.  While she explains where to tap she also guides us with direction and encouragement with words such as:

“Focus on the anxiety and what is causing it... Even though I am feeling anxious, I honor how I feel and I give my body permission to relax… I am open to more ease.  Allow the feeling to rise up, recognize and release the anxiety, imagine how you would feel without the anxiety… It is safe to release this anxiety, I don’t need all the answers now, even before anything changes, I can begin to relax… I choose peace and I am open to inspiration.  Relaxation is my natural state.”

Jessica also explains how tapping can calm the nervous system and rewire the brain to help release the anxiety.  By the end of the 9 minutes, my level of anxiety had decreased to a 2.  Nothing changed, I still had lingering worries, but my body felt much calmer.

If you experience anxiety, I encourage you to give tapping a try.  I hope and pray that you continue to find tools that help you to maintain joy, peace and a high level of energy in your life.  Also please keep our sweet golden retriever in your prayers.  Thank you!
