You Are Enough

A tendency toward perfectionism can be from a subconscious belief that if we are not good enough, we may not be accepted or loved.  And if we make a mistake, we could be rejected and isolated.

Being a perfectionist puts us in a constant state of fear of disappointing others.  When we have unrealistically high standards for ourselves, we often put them on others too.  This can lead to judgment, frequent opportunities for disappointment, anger and bitterness.

Experiencing these emotions chronically without awareness or the tools to process them may lead to symptoms such as chronic pain, stomach distress, skin issues, anxiety, depression and more.

To heal from perfectionism, we need to be aware of our negative thought patterns.  We need to notice when we are rushing constantly throughout the day to keep up.  We need to notice when we become paralized with fear that we might mess something up and not do a good enough job.  We need to notice when we have no patience for ourselves or others when we make mistakes.

The first step is mindfulness and awareness.  Next steps are emotional release techniques, brain rewiring, self-compassion and love.  This can be done with a daily practice of journaling, meditation and prayer.

To keep the toxic emotions from getting stuck in your mind and body, take time to practice daily detox journaling where you type up and delete or write out and rip up all the negative thoughts that are swirling around in your head.

Do emotional freedom technique (EFT) meditations and repeat mantras that confirm that you are good enough and that it is okay and normal to make mistakes.  The Tapping Solution app has a “You Are Enough” and many other helpful tapping meditations.

During your meditation and prayer time, ask God to help you see yourself and others through God’s eyes.  This will fill your heart with more compassion, love and grace for yourself and others too.  Ask for divine help in replacing fear with peace, trust and love.  And remember, you are loved and you are enough.
